Change your sign-in email

How to change the email you use to sign in, what to do with the codes, how to cancel a change, and what to do if staff started the change for you.

Before you start

Your sign-in email is the email address you type on the sign-in page. You can change it yourself from My Profile.

You need:

  • Your password.
  • Access to your current email inbox (or your authenticator app, if you use one).
  • Access to the new email inbox.

You can't change your email while you are acting for someone else as a Legal Representative. Sign out of that view first.

Change your email

Open My Profile

Open My Profile. On a computer, use the menu on the left. On a phone, tap More in the bottom bar, then My Profile.

Tap Change email

In the Personal Information box, find Email. Tap the white Change email button next to it.

A box opens with the title Confirm it's you. It says Step 1 of 3.

Type your password

Tap the box under Current password * and type the password you use to sign in. Tap the purple Send code button.

If you see "That password isn't right.", type your password again carefully.

Get your code

The box changes to New email and says Step 2 of 3.

  • If you use email codes: the portal sends a 6-digit code to your current email. The subject is Your PBCN Member Portal code to change your sign-in email. If you don't see it, check your Spam or Junk folder.
  • If you use an authenticator app: no email is sent. Open your app and use the 6 numbers it shows.

Type the code and your new email

Tap the box under Code from your current email * (or Code from your authenticator app *) and type the 6 numbers.

Tap the box under New email * and type the new address. Then tap the purple Send code to new email button.

If you see "Enter a valid email address.", check the new address for typos. If you see "That email address can't be used.", try a different address.

Open your new inbox

The box changes to Check your new inbox and says Step 3 of 3. It shows part of your new email, for example j•••@example.ca.

Open the new inbox. Find the email Confirm your new PBCN Member Portal sign-in email and read the 6-digit code.

Type the new code

Tap the box under Code from your new email * and type the code. Tap the green Confirm button.

You see Email changed and the words Your sign-in email is now and your new address. You are signed out everywhere.

Sign in again

Tap the purple Sign in button. Sign in with your new email and your usual password.

If you see "Enter the 6-digit code.", the code must be 6 numbers. If a message says the code is wrong, check it and try again.

Your email until you confirm

Until you type the code from your new inbox, nothing changes. Keep signing in with your current email.

If you close the box before step 3, a notice called Email change pending shows on My Profile. It says Confirm it from the email we sent to and part of your new address.

  • Tap Enter the code to finish the change.
  • Or tap Change email again. The box opens at Check your new inbox.

Cancel a change you started

Open the box

On My Profile, tap the white Change email button. The Check your new inbox box opens.

Tap Cancel this change

Tap the red Cancel this change button.

The box closes. Your sign-in email stays the same.

What happens to your old email

After you confirm, the portal sends an email to your old address. The subject is Your PBCN Member Portal sign-in email was changed. It shows part of your new address and when it changed.

If you made the change, you don't need to do anything. If you didn't, see If you didn't change your email.

If you changed your email recently

You can't change your email again right away. If you try, a message tells you when you can change it again. Try again after that time.

If a message says Too many codes requested, wait a while and try again.

If staff started the change for you

Sometimes PBCN staff change your sign-in email for you, for example after you asked at the band office.

Find the email

Open your new inbox. Find the email Confirm your new PBCN Member Portal sign-in email. It has a 6-digit code and a purple Confirm email button. You also get a notice in the portal called Confirm your new email address.

Open the confirm page

Tap the purple Confirm email button. The Confirm Your New Email page opens. You can open it even if you are signed out.

Type the code

Tap the box under Code * and type the 6 numbers. Tap the purple Confirm Email button.

You see Email Confirmed. You are signed out everywhere.

Tap the purple Sign In button. Sign in with your new email and your usual password.

If the page shows Can't Confirm This Email, the change has expired or was cancelled. Contact your band office if you still need to change your email.

If staff started the change, you can't cancel it yourself. The box says PBCN staff started this change. To stop it, ask staff to cancel it. Contact your band office.

Never share your codes with anyone, including people who say they are staff. If you get a code you didn't ask for, contact your band office.
