Create a new household
How to ask PBCN to create a new household at your address, step by step.
When to use this
Use Request to create a new household when:
- You don't have a household in the portal yet, or
- You are moving out of your current household to a new home.
The request has 4 steps: Address, Household Members, Head of Household and Review & Submit. The top of each step shows Step 1 of 4 and so on.
Start the request
Open My Household
Open My Household. On a phone, tap More at the bottom of the screen first.
Choose the request
Tap the purple Request Household Update button, then tap Request to create a new household.
The page Create a New Household opens.
Step 1: Address
The question is What is your current home address? Use the place where you live most of the time. Don't use a mailing address or PO box here.
Choose the country
Under Which country do you (and those in your household, if applicable) currently live in?, choose the country.
Choose the community
Under Which community do you (and those in your household, if applicable) currently live in?, tap Select community and choose your community.
Choose the kind of home
Under Which best describes where you (and those in your household, if applicable) currently live?, tap the one that fits:
- I live in a town or city
- I live on reserve
- I live on a rural property
- I live in a shelter, treatment centre, care home or other facility
- I don't have a fixed address
Fill in the address
New boxes appear for that kind of home. Fill in each box with a red star *. For a town or city, these include Address line 1, City or town and Province. Postal code (for example A1A 1A1) says (optional). On reserve, you may see House or lot #.
If you see a box called Search for your current home address, start typing your address and tap it in the list. The address boxes fill in for you. If your address isn't in the list, tap Can't find it? Enter it manually and type it in the boxes.
Answer the shared building question (if asked)
If you see Is your home a separate unit in a building or house shared with another household?, tap Yes or No. If Yes, type your Unit #.
Add a mailing address (optional)
If your mail goes somewhere else, tap the switch next to My mailing address is different and fill in your mailing address.
Go to the next step
Tap the purple Next button at the bottom.
If you are already in a household, you also see who will become the Head of your current household after you leave. Tap the box under New Head for your current household and choose a person. If you skip it, you see "Choose a new Head for your current household."
Step 2: Household Members
Count the people
Under How many people live at this address, including you?, tap the + button to add people or − to remove. Count everyone who lives there most of the time.
Fill in each person
Under Who lives with you?, tap each person's section to open it. For each person, fill in:
- How is this person related to you?: tap Select relationship and choose.
- Full legal name
- Their date of birth (Month, Day and Year)
- Treaty number: as shown on their status card. Leave it blank if you don't have it.
- Proof files (optional): for example a birth certificate, status card or letter.
Your own section is marked You (the person submitting this request) and is locked.
If you see "Enter a date of birth.", fill in the person's date of birth.
Go to the next step
Tap the purple Next button.
Step 3: Head of Household
Under Select the head of the household, tap the person who will be the Head of Household. The Head of Household is the person who applies for household programs.
Then tap the purple Review & Submit button.
Step 4: Review & Submit
Check everything
Check the address and people. To fix something, tap the white Edit button next to that part.
Add a note (optional)
Under Anything staff should know?, you can type a note, for example shared custody or a separate unit in the same building.
Read the notice
A blue note says Each adult you list will be notified and asked to confirm before any change is made. Our staff may contact them.
Tick the box
Tap the square next to I confirm each adult listed agreed to join my household and lives at this address. False statements may lead to repayment and removal. *
Send it
Tap the purple Submit Request button.
You see Request sent. You can follow it in the Requests tab of My Household.
If you tap Back on the first step after you start typing, the portal asks Leave this request? and warns What you entered will be lost.
